About

Systems thinker. Institutional translator. Making AI work in the real world.

I work at the intersection of AI, public policy, and large-scale system transformation — currently serving as Deputy Director for AI across NHS England and the Department of Health & Social Care.

My focus is on turning AI from promise into practice in complex public systems — ensuring it is safe, ethical, evidence-based, and operationally useful, while delivering tangible productivity and quality gains for patients and staff.

My background spans technology, improvement science, and major programme leadership. I am particularly interested in how people, incentives, and governance determine whether innovation succeeds — often more than the technology itself.

Alongside my policy work, I remain hands-on with AI tools and systems design. I am motivated by a simple question: how do we use AI to make public services work better for the people who rely on them — and the people who deliver them?

National work I've led and shaped

  • AI strategy, policy, and governance across health and care
  • The transition from pilots to scaled adoption — ambient clinical tools, diagnostics, and automation
  • Aligning regulators, commissioners, and delivery bodies around shared standards and outcomes
  • Embedding AI within broader reform agendas, including the 10-Year Health Plan and cross-government AI initiatives
  • The AI and Digital Regulations Service for Health and Social Care
  • National buyers guidance for AI in health and care
